THE BAKER'S ARMS

The pub occupies 21 High Street, which was formerly the site of Hammersley’s Bakery. The bakery closed around 2014 and the building had been empty since then.

In May 2016 to the surprise of many, Caldmore Taverns Ltd based in Shropshire submitted a planning application to convert the shop into a public house.

The application generated some debate within the community, however it was seen as mostly positive and no formal comments were filed with the SMDC. The planning application was supported by the Cheadle Town Council, then in August the planning application was passed by the SMDC.

The bar officially opened on 25th April 2017, with members of the Cheadle Town Council amongst the first customers.

The pub has a traditional feel with a bar area, a snug and a beer garden to the rear. The first manager of the pub had a dog named Holly (aka Pub Dog) who mingled freely with the customers and their dogs. Regulars were rather upset when she left the pub.

The pub has recently won two CAMRA awards:

Staffordshire Moorlands Pub of the Year 2018 (highly commended)

Staffordshire Moorlands Urban Pub of the Year 2019 (highly commended)
