This pub was in the Brookhouses part of town round the corner from the Huntsman. The land on which it stood, is now part of the land occupied by Vulcan Refractories Ltd.

Proprietor Joseph Saltwas fined 5 shillings in 1864, for selling beer on a Sunday morning. The nearby New Inn was caught doing the same.

In 1885 Benjamin Smith this pub's owner objected to the application of the New Inn beer house getting it’s full licence, it would go on to become The Huntsman.
From 1912 this inn hosted a weekly garden competition in the town running from May to September, the results were published in the Cheadle and Tean Times.
The Brookhouses Homing Society held their meetings and annual dinners at the Roebuck.

After former New Haden Colliery worker Albert “Bert” Whitehurst became a professional footballer he was honoured in the pub by having a football used by him kept in a glass case behind the bar.
When John J. Shenton retired from the trade in August 1959 he was congratulated by the local magistrates. Norman Plant took over the license under a protection order, the license was transferred to him officially the following month.
Following the closure of this pub, the Plant family took over the Station Hotel on Tape Street.
